Assumption University of Thailand (AU) came together on November 13, 2024, in a quiet yet poignant almsgiving ceremony, paying tribute to His Majesty the King’s 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary. The event unfolded in the early hours at the Sri Rattanakosin Gate, in front of the university’s CL Building on the Suvarnabhumi Campus, where faculty, students, and staff gathered in solemn reflection.
The ceremony saw participants offering alms to nine Buddhist monks—a symbolic gesture rooted in Thai tradition, honoring the King’s enduring contributions to the nation and underscoring a collective respect for Thai cultural heritage. As the sun rose, so did the spirit of unity, with the AU community embracing a moment to connect, reflect, and celebrate shared values.
Organized by AU’s Office of Thai Art and Culture,Student Affairs the ceremony was a reminder of the university’s dedication to fostering a deeper understanding of Thailand’s traditions. The simplicity of the event belied its significance, with attendees finding meaning in every gesture, from the careful preparation of offerings, available from 7:30 A.M., to the quiet reverence shared by all.
This was not just an occasion to honor His Majesty, but a chance for AU to affirm its role in the preservation of cultural identity, even as it strides forward as an international institution. The ceremony was a testament to AU’s commitment to community, culture, and respect for tradition.
