Royal Biography

H.M. King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua (Rama X)

is the only son and the second child of the four children of H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great and H.M. Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother. His Majesty was born at the Amphorn Sathan Residential Hall of the Dusit Palace on Monday the 28th of July 1952.

His Majesty has one elder sister, Princess Ubol Rajakanya Sirivadhana Barnavadi, and two younger sisters, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana.

His Majesty was invested as Crown Prince and Heir to the Throne by H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great on December 28, 1972, in the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall of the Grand Palace, making him the third crown prince of the Royal House of Chakri in accordance with the Palace Law on Succession of 1924.

His Majesty ascended the throne as King Rama X of the Royal House of Chakri, succeeding H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great, who passed away on 13 October 2016, and H.M the King accepted the invitation on 1 December 2016.

Educational Background:

On September 4, 1956, H.M. King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua starts his education at age four at Chitralada School in the Udon Throne Hall in Dusit Palace, established by H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great for the prince and princesses and the children of palace officials.

1970 His Majesty completed secondary education at Mill Field School in Somerset, England.

1972 Having attended a military training course at The King’s School in Sydney, Australia, he then enrolled at the Royal Military College, Duntroon, in Canberra, Australia.

1976 He graduated with a B.A. (Military Studies) from the University of New South Wales, Australia.

His Majesty has been well known as a true military man with his major role serving in the Royal Thai Army, Navy, and Air Force. In his year-round duties, he has made frequent visits to provinces all over the kingdom—both by representing King Rama IX and in his own capacity—through a wide variety of official functions and ceremonies.

His Majesty is a Sports genius

Since early childhood, when he still held the royal title of His Royal Highness Prince Vajiralongkorn, His Majesty was a football player at Chitralada School. Siam Football History Association of Thailand noted that, in the beginning, he played as a forward and, later, changed to a center-back for Chitralada School. Even at Millfield School in England, Royal Military College in Duntroon, Australia, and Command And General Staff College in Thailand, he continued to play football with a significant role in helping the Royal Military College of Duntroon team secure the trophy of the Australian University Championships. His Majesty is now renowned for his involvement in and as a great supporter of cycling.
